PORTLAND, OREGON — Jason A. Doherty, a 60-year-old resident of Newberg, Oregon, has died following a fatal motorcycle crash on Interstate 5 near the Marquam Bridge in Portland. His passing has left family members, friends, and loved ones mourning a life taken suddenly and tragically.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, the crash occurred on June 19, 2026, on southbound I-5 near exit 299A, just south of the Marquam Bridge. Authorities reported that Doherty was operating a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a sidecar when the incident took place.

Investigators stated that after navigating a left turn while traveling off the Marquam Bridge, the motorcycle veered out of its lane and struck a concrete barrier. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to preliminary findings.

Emergency responders, including a Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crew that happened to be nearby, quickly arrived at the scene and provided assistance. Portland Fire & Rescue also responded and attempted lifesaving measures; however, Jason Doherty was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that Doherty was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, though reports indicated it was a half-shell novelty helmet not approved by the Department of Transportation. The Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
