For five decades, Gene Bess built an extraordinary legacy at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He served as the program’s head coach from 1971 until his retirement in 2020, transforming a junior college basketball team into a nationally recognized powerhouse and becoming the winningest coach in college basketball history.

During his remarkable 50-season career, Bess amassed an incredible 1,300 victories, a milestone that placed him among the most accomplished coaches the sport has ever known.
