Hunter Hull Centralia, MO Death, Obituary – Centralia High School Mourns Loss Of Student

The Centralia community is mourning the tragic loss of 17-year-old Hunter Hull, a Centralia High School student and basketball player who died following a Boone County crash on Wednesday at approximately 9:45 p.m. His sudden passing has left family members, friends, classmates, teammates, and educators devastated.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the collision occurred on Highway 124 at Gano Chance Road when Hunter, who was driving, failed to stop at a stop sign. The report states that a sequence of events followed, leading to a serious collision involving another vehicle. A 28-year-old Columbia woman driving an SUV attempted to avoid the teen’s vehicle, which resulted in a crash that caused Hunter’s vehicle to overturn multiple times. He was ejected from the vehicle and later transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

A teenage passenger in Hunter’s vehicle survived the crash but sustained injuries and was taken for medical treatment. The driver of the SUV was also hospitalized with serious injuries.

Centralia High School confirmed Hunter as a junior and a valued member of the varsity boys’ basketball team. He also participated in a traveling basketball program, where he continued to pursue his passion for the sport.

The Centralia Panthers basketball program paid tribute to Hunter, describing him as an important part of their athletic family whose energy, dedication, and presence will be deeply missed. Coaches, teammates, and school officials have expressed profound grief following the loss.

District officials announced that counselors would be made available to support students and staff as the community processes the tragedy. Superintendent Steven Chancellor urged the community to come together in support of Hunter’s family during this difficult time.

As Centralia grieves, Hunter Hull is being remembered for his passion for basketball, his friendships, and the impact he made in his school community.
