Family members, friends, and the Grand Rapids community are mourning the tragic loss of Jessica Schmock, a 39-year-old mother of three who died in a devastating wrong-way crash on Interstate 196 early Friday morning.
According to authorities, the collision occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on the westbound lanes of I-196 near Lane Avenue in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Investigators reported that a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction struck Schmock’s car head-on as she was driving home from work. Both drivers were killed in the crash.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but despite their efforts, Schmock and the other driver were pronounced deceased.
Born in Grand Rapids and residing in Jenison, Jessica was remembered by loved ones as a warm, compassionate, and family-centered woman whose life revolved around caring for others. Her sudden passing has left her family devastated as they struggle to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
