A San Antonio Police Department officer was shot and a barricaded suspect was later found dead following a major officer-involved shooting and standoff in the Stone Oak area on San Antonio’s North Side Friday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers responded shortly before 12:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 100 block of Red Hawk Ridge, near Hardy Oak Elementary School and Lopez Middle School. The incident quickly escalated into a large-scale emergency response that drew numerous patrol units, SWAT officers, and negotiators to the scene.
Police Chief William McManus confirmed that one SAPD officer was struck by gunfire during the initial response. The wounded officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the officer’s condition.
Following the shooting, the suspect retreated into a nearby residence and barricaded himself inside, prompting police to establish a secure perimeter around the neighborhood. Residents in the area were urged to remain indoors, and a significant law enforcement presence remained in place as officers worked to resolve the situation safely.
The standoff continued for several hours as crisis negotiators and tactical teams attempted to communicate with the suspect. Authorities later entered the residence and discovered the suspect deceased inside the home.
Officials have not yet disclosed the exact circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death, and investigators have not released the individual’s identity pending further inquiry. The incident is being reviewed by SAPD’s Shooting Team and Internal Affairs Division.
The shooting and standoff caused significant disruption in the Stone Oak community, particularly near nearby schools and residential neighborhoods. Law enforcement officials maintained road closures and urged motorists and residents to avoid the area while the investigation continued.
